Pilot Plants are used to test the performance of a specific treatment. Compact Plants are installations that allow the treatment of contaminated water to improve discharge conditions. These plants are modular and can be containerised or not, depending on the customer's needs.

Different processes and technologies for advanced water desalination: osmosis, membrane distillation, multi-effect evaporation distillation, etc.

Reverse Osmosis (RO)

Reverse Osmosis plants are a water supply system free of salts and dissolved matter, based on the technology of semi-permeable membranes. The Membranes act as a selective permeable barrier, allowing the water to pass through it and retaining other substances on its surface (salts, solids, etc.).

Its main application is the desalination of water for human consumption, irrigation or process water. These plants are supplied mounted on a stand and can go containerised or not, depending on the needs of the customer.

MED and MSF

Currently, the desalination processes by evaporation have carved a niche in the market, obtaining great results in the area of drinking water production. The great advantage of this type of treatment in comparison with others that pursue the same goal is that the energy consumption will never be determined by the salinity of the influent.
Keiken Engineering can supply the most advanced technology in multi-effect evaporation (MED) and multistage flash evaporation (MSF), which are based on the evaporation of water through several stages with different temperature and pressure conditions. To reduce the energy consumption of these treatments, Keiken gives the possibility to supply plants with clean and renewable energy, which implies an added value on the treatment that we offer.

Forward Osmosis (FO)

Forward Osmosis plants Use the osmotic pressure gradient to provoke the diffusion of water through a semipermeable membrane from a diluted solution, called food solution, towards a highly concentrated, called solution Hood. As a result of this process, the extractor solution is diluted, thus reducing its osmotic pressure until it reaches the equalization of the feeding.

Forward osmosis is a natural process in which it is not necessary to apply high pressures, so the expected energy cost is lower than that of reverse osmosis. Its applications include wastewater treatment, water purification and water desalination. These plants are supplied mounted on a stand and can be containerised or not, depending on the needs of the customer.

Adsorption Desalination (AD)

The Adsorption-based Desalination (AD) is a thermal process of brackish/seawater desalination, an innovative alternative to conventional thermal processes such as MSF, MED or MVC but also to the widely spread membrane technologies like RO.

The adsorption desalination technology, coupled to a renewable energy source, markedly reduces energy consumption per m3 of produced water, and also improves the quality of the generated water.

Membrane Distillation (MD)

Membrane distillation is a desalination process where the driving force is the vapor pressure gradient generated on both sides of a membrane. This allows to separate volatile matter from non-volatile matter, obtaining a high quality water.

It is a process that has a great number of advantages:

  • 100% rejection of solids and non-volatile matter.
  • Reduced investment cost thanks to the materials used for filtration.
  • Reduced operating costs thanks to the application of renewable energies to the process.
  • Versatile due to the possibility to be used for a high range of applications.

Ultrafiltration

UF plants manufactured by Keiken Engineering are able to ensure the elimination of pollutants in the order of organic compounds, virus, colloids and bacteria. This is due to the use of membranes with a pore size between 0.1 and 0.01 micron, which determine the name of this physical separation treatment.

We can guarantee a high quality water for different uses (reuse, reverse osmosis pretreatment, etc.), stability in permeate, low space requirements and modularity. In addition, our plants are equipped with an automatic membrane washing equipment. It allows always work in the best operating conditions required by the process.

Demineralization (DM)

In many applications, the quality of the required water must be pure. To do this, it is necessary to carry out a demineralization process that is based on the elimination of inorganic ions (calcium and magnesium mainly) present in the influent to obtain a high quality in the treated water.

To achieve it, our plants carry out water treatment through ion exchange resins, which absorb and accumulate the ions contained even in the most diluted solutions.

Once the quality reached in the effluent is not adequate, the automatic cleaning system regenerates the resins by means of acid and basic dissolutions to meet the specifications established by the customer.
