Carriers are plastic supports used in MBBR (Moving Bed Biofilm Reactor) biological processes. They serve the biomass as a growth support, forming a biofilm on its surface, which subsequently degrades the biodegradable matter in the medium. Their high surface area per unit volume allows, compared to conventional processes, to increase the amount of biomass and thus the efficiency of the process.
